ST. LOUIS, MO // JAN. 11, 2021 – Local businessman Andrew Jones has announced his candidacy for Mayor of St. Louis City. Jones has spent over thirty years in the city raising his family, serving his community, and working his way toward executive roles in area businesses. He has the right mix of skills to restore integrity, transparency, and fiscal responsibility to the mayor’s office for the great city of St. Louis.
“I am excited to announce my campaign for Mayor of the City of St. Louis,” said Jones. “For too long, politicians have put special interests before St. Louis families. In the mayoral office, I will strive every day to make St. Louis a city that every other metropolitan area uses as an example of civic excellence. With a strong emphasis on economic development, crime prevention, educational reform and inclusion, we can improve St. Louis for our generation and generations to come.”
As mayor, Jones’ top priority will be to tackle violent crime. “Community and economic development cannot take place with the specter of crime hanging over the city,” said Jones. “We must address and eliminate the main drivers of violent crime. With the right cooperation between law enforcement, public agencies, and the community, I consider a safer city well within reach.”
Instead of giving handouts to the well-connected, Jones’ economic development plan will invest in neighborhoods and will promote St. Louis’s boundless opportunities. “The best practice for the City of St. Louis is to promote its bounty of intermodal opportunities” he said. “Railways, airways, waterways and all of the infrastructure in place highlight the low cost of doing business in the City of St. Louis. That is what needs to be marketed to potential businesses.”
As a successful business executive, Jones knows that the key to St. Louis’s success is a strong education system. “As important as it is to bring jobs to the City of St. Louis, it is equally important to make sure our children are being prepared in the classroom to earn those jobs,” said Jones. “We must make sure all city schools have the proper budgets, administration, educators and accreditation in place for our students to succeed. Our schools should not be a deterrent to living in the City of St. Louis, but a benefit.”
Jones holds an economics degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO. He also holds two advanced degrees from St. Louis universities, with an MA in International Business from Webster University and an MBA from Washington University’s Olin School of Business. After an accomplished career with Ameren, Jones moved to his current position as the Executive Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Southwest Electric Cooperative.
